Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: NIKONDI FETISH/POWER FIGURE - Kongo peoples, DR Congo. Carved wood figure with multiple inserted nails, wrapped twine, metal chains around neck and ankle, and carbuncle with glass covering. Many of these items have been added over time. A Nicondi is the most powerful of the Nkisi. They are seen as a vessel for harboring a spirit from the dead, with power to hunt down and punish wrongdoers. They are inspired to action with invoked and provoked invocations. Condition good, crack on side of face, commensurate with age. Late 19th/Early 20th century. 11.5H
