Condition_report : This work is a mixed media piece on canvas, to which a smaller work on board is attached to the stretcher on the left as seen in the catalogue illustration. There are some minor areas of surface loss and cracking, particularly in the thicker areas of impasto, which is consistent with the nature of the medium, including two small (less than 0.5cm square) surface losses near the top of the painted shield on the right side and one larger loss to the impasto just above the centre of the left framing edge. There is a vertical line of smaller surface losses to the top of the figure's head and another to the figure's back, where the yellow ground can be seen, as visible in the catalogue illustration. There are minor surface marks throughout, and there are drips of brown paint to the lower right quadrant that appear to be contemporary to the painting. On the wooden element, there is no significant appearance of damage, but some minor wear around some nail holes where the work was previously assembled to the canvas stretcher frame.
