Notes : LITERATURE:S. Hudleston, Against All Odds George Pemba: His Life and Works, (Johannesburg, 1996), illustrated p.117The present lot compares closely to the watercolour Funeral Procession (illustrated in Hudleston, 1996). That work is autobiographical, and depicts the young artist riding on the wagon carrying the coffin of his father, Titus, in 1928. "So many people died and I was always going to funerals. They were a fact of our everyday lives - there was always someone dying. Even though I did not enjoy these events, they served to spark my imagination." (the artist as quoted in Hudleston, 1996, p.56)
