Literature : Emo de Medeiros, a Beninese-French artist, lives and works in Cotonou (Benin) and in Paris. His practice hinges on a single concept he calls «contexture», a fusion of the digital and the material, of the tangible and the intangible, exploring hybridizations, interconnections and circulations of forms, technologies, traditions, myths and merchandises. He investigates the new perspectives and conversations happening in a novel space: the current context of the post-colonial, globalized and digi- talized world of the early 21st century. The focus of his research encompasses transcultural spaces and the ques- tioning of traditional notions of origin, locus or identity and their mutations through non-linear narratives. Exhibitions Centre Pompidou; Palais de Tokyo; Musée du Quai Branly; MARKK Hamburg Germany; Videobrasil Contemporary Art Festival São Paulo; Biennale de Gwangju (Corée du Sud); Biennale Arte Pais Guatemala; Nigeria LagosPhoto; United Kingdom; Japan; China; Marrakech biennale; Casablanca biennale, Maroc.
Notes : Chromatics is a piece that highlights the need for a radical struggle against racism, "radical" meaning that the struggle must also be symbolic and conceptual, "at the root" of representations. To this end, it is a question of exposing and eradicating the conditioning of an "ordinary racialism" which creates via language and automatic thinking a mainly subconscious linguistic "apartheid" ("White" / "non-White", "Black" / "non-Black" for example) in order to fight its social, political but also aesthetic consequences.
