Description : Tribal Art: Zoomorphic mask Dogon, Mali light brown wood, mat patina, remains of black paint, of oval form with flat chin, characterized by elongated, pierced eyes, small ears aside, an indicated mouth below, pierced around the rim, min. dam., minor missing parts, traces of abrasion, on base, while the sculptures are carved by the blacksmiths, the masks are carved by young men of the awa society. All the masks belong to the awa society and appear at the dama burial ceremonies, which take place every two or three years in honour of deceased members. They depict animals, objects or humans and are made of plant fibre, fabric or wood. H: 28,5 cm, (5247/012) H: 11.2 inch Provenance: Coll.
