Description : Tribal Art: Miniature mask Makonde, Tansania wood, kaolin, traces of indigo blue paint, concave vaulted face halves, crowned by long projecting ears, slightly dam., fine cracks (right face half), on metal base, according to Karl Weule depicting a hare sungara, which in african fairy tales is looked upon as a kind of Reynard the Fox. The hare masks conditionally belong to the so-called devils masks, which are characterized by vertically protruding horns. They are connected with the evil spirit nandenga.
