Description : Tribal Art: Friction oracle Lualwa, D. R. Kongo light brown wood, brown patina, two-parted, base in shape of a bisected cylindre, carved with a human figure, min. dam., fissures, slight traces of usage, the Chokwe attribute the origin of this divination instrument to the Lunda people. Questions are posed as the two boards are rubbed together. If the upper part, which may represent a female figure, stops and is leaning over towards the diviner, the answer is negative. If the upper part suddenly stops, as if fixed to the lower board, and the diviner cannot move it towards him, the answer is positive. L: 14 cm, (5028/051) L: 5.5 inch Provenance: Coll.
