Description : Details: This lot consists of the antique engraving shown in the corresponding images. This plate (number 16) has been excised from the third volume of Description de l'Egypte : ou, Recueil des observations et des recherches qui ont ete faites en Egypte pendant l'expedition de l'armee francaise (first published in 1809), which details Napoleon's expedition to Egypt. This engraved topographic map, entitled plan topographique des ruines, shows the ruins of the temple complex of Karnak at Thebes. Many of the ruins are shown in great detail, including the hypostyle hall of the Grand Temple. Further details include palm trees and cultivated fields. Jollois, Devilliers, St. Genis et Corabaeuf can be found in the lower left margin, while Schroeder et Blondeau can be found in the lower right.
