Description : The Teke Kidumu mask demonstrated the supernatural powers of the earth. Originally adorned with a ring of feathers and a collar of raffia fiber, this variety of mask was worn in acrobatic performances. The rounded shape is divided into, two parts at the level of the eye slits, with the upper portion protruding slightly outwards and a sunken lower half. The overall dynamic relief pattern of the mask disguises these two levels. These masks come from the Ogowe region in the, Congo, and are used to confirm the social and political structure during the Kidumu masquerade dancing ceremonies. They commonly feature geometric motif designs which are aligned symmetrically along both vertical and horizontal, axes. This mask features an overall square shape with rounded edges, and was made in the late 20th century.
