Description : This is a set of 3 wooden, possibly vintage, dog fetishes. The pieces originate from central Africa, and were originally crafted by the KISSI people. The largest of the pieces measures approx 10 inches H, 5.12 inches W, and 21.12 inches long. The pieces show signs of wear due to their age. African art, spiritual, spirits, sculptures, folk art, tribal art, arts and crafts, idols, totems, mantle accessories, shelf accessories. 9 Fetishes were protective figures used by individuals, families, or whole communities to destroy or weaken evil spirits, prevent or cure illnesses, repel bad deeds, solemnize contracts or oath-taking, and decide arguments. These fetishes often are given the form of a dog, because of its ability to protect and to search out evil forces. The nails or blades, when driven in, activated its spiritual power. Small figures were family owned and were used to protect the home, larger ones
