Description : A lot of 3 Roman pottery pieces from Pompei, 2 with pyroclastic encrustation. The first a pretty lekythos decorated with a weave pattern, but missing its handle, H: 12.3 cm. A small black bowl retaining its metallic sheen from the original slip and has pyroclastic encrustation on the underside, H: 2.2 cm, D: 7.5 cm. The third an undetailed oil lamp which has been hard fired, L: 10.5 cm, D: 6.8 cm. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
