Very good condition. Gordon Lindsay Maclean was born in Durban in 1937 and grew up in Basutoland (now Lesotho) and the neighbouring eastern Free State. He had to leave school after Standard 8 (Grade 10) to do farmwork, where the outdoor life and the timeous gift of a bird book kindled his interest in birds. (from Terry Oatley's 'A Rich Legacy: Gordon Lindsay Maclean 1937-2008', in Africa - Birds & Birding, June/July 2008) The first of the volumes in this set bears a gift inscription from Gordon Maclean's mother, and is very probably the 'timeous gift' referred to in Terry Oatley's obituary. The subsequent editions track the eminent ornithologist's career, culminating in the two complete revisions which he personally authored. A remarkable provenance., Condition - , Johannesburg/Cape Town, The Central News Agency/The Trustees of the South African Bird Book Fund/The Trustees of the John Voelcker Bird Book Fund, 1951-1970/1980-1993
