This is the rating and price for Rare Egyptian Granite Mace Head, 2030
Description : A rare and unusual Egyptian granite mace head, Middle Kingdom, c. 2030-1640. Reverse pear shaped in design and with a drilled hole penetrating through but not completely widened out at the bottom, H: 2 1/8 in (5.5cm)x W: 2 1/8 in (5.5cm). This piece exemplifies both the beauty and the construction technique of a weapon of war. Marble was the material of choice for the typical soldier but granite was reserved for the elite. From the Archeology Online Journal article Women, Weaponry and Warfare in Ancient Egypt: A Brief Examination of Available Evidence, author Rebecca Dean mentions: Remaining in the 12th Dynasty, an internment within the pyramid of Amenemhet III contained the remains of two middle-aged queens from Amenemhet III's reign. The queens were buried with granite mace-heads. Again, these mace-heads could possibly have been used as functional weapons. Ex Southern California private collection.
