Description : [ MEDALS ] Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Elandslaagte, Defence of Ladysmith, Belfast (4244 Sjt. E. Keane, 5/Lcrs.) some edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine E400-500 Edward Keane was born in Monkton, West Yorkshire. A labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Lancers on 16 September 1893, aged 21 years. With the 5th Lancers he served in India, September 1895 to March 1898 and in South Africa, March 1898 to May 1901. He continued to serve in South Africa following his transfer to the Army Reserve in June 1901, serving as Troop Sergeant-Major in the Northern Transvaal South African Constabulary. With them he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (London Gazette 31 October 1902). Keane was discharged from the Army Reserve on obtaining the rank of Superintendent of Police in the S.A.C on 6 November 1903. Sold with copied attestation papers and other research. Entitled to D.C.M. and K.S.A. with 2 clasps in addition to the above.
