Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART, PUNO CARVED WOOD MASK - (Gabon) Puno masks represent idealized female ancestors' faces. White colored masks were worn for funeral memorials and also in magical rites whose function was to unmask sorcerer. Black colored masks were said to have a judiciary function. Masks are worn today to entertain on festive occasions. Characteristics include high domed foreheads and elaborate coiffures. Unmarked. Condition good, some surface finish loss. Late 19th/Early 20th century. 11H x 8W
