Description : Mask kifwebe Luba, Zaire wood, dark patina, white and red pigment remains, of bulged form, the face decorated with curved parallel grooves, small open worked eyes are flanking a flat triangular nose, a rectangular opened mouth underneath, min. dam., slight signs of abrasion, those masks are said to be incarnations of bizarre heterogenic beings. The grooves are symbolizing animals with striped skin, like porcupines, zebras or antelopes. Those round mask were especially danced in funerals of important persons and during other rites of transition or transformation. H: 34 cm, (4637/001)
