Description : Approximately 500 BCE to 200 CE fragmented terracotta head, neck and torso with pitted eyes and slit mouth. Black pigment around the eyes and shoulder. Size 7 3/4 on include custom stand, figure 5 3/4 H Noted from the previous owner, a short history about Nok. The katsina style emerged along with the Nok culture. Discovered through archeological expeditions in the 1940's, almost nothing is known about the society or it's customs other than the spectacular terra cotta sculptures they left behind. If not for these artifacts, their culture might have been completely forgotten.
