Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A lovely pair of amulets from ancient Egypt. First is a crouching zoomorphic creature of an abstract presentation that is carved from smooth, light gray stone. Incised striations denote the tucked legs, and a petite suspension hole is drilled laterally through the middle of the back. The largest piece is a mold-formed faience amulet depicting Anubis in a striding pose atop an integral plinth. The jackal-headed god of the dead stands in front of a dorsal pillar and is adorned with powdery blue glaze and areas of black pigment. Condition report : Both pieces have minor abrasions and Anubis amulet has softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Great smooth surfaces to smaller piece, and nice remains of glaze pigment across Anubis.
