Description : Ancient Egypt, early New Kingdom Period, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. A lovely pair of mold-formed faience ushabti figures, one covered in a sky-blue glaze and the other in a pale blue-green glaze. The shorter figure has the traditional pose of an overseer shabti, an individual who is in charge of monitoring up to ten worker ushabti in the sacred fields of Osiris in the afterlife. The overseer wears a knee-length robe with the left hand held against the chest, a painted depiction of a whip is customary for this type of figure. The taller shabti stands in mummiform with crossed arms and wears a tripartite wig, with facial details, a knotted headband, a seed basket and the symbolic pick and hoe, and a column of hieroglyphic text presented in applied black pigment. Custom wooden display stand included. Size of largest (blue-green): 3.425 H (8.7 cm), 4 H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand. Condition report : Both figures have surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age as expected, fading to glaze coloration and some finer details especially on the faces, small chips to bodies, legs, and verso of each, and light roughness across most surfaces. Nice earthen deposits and traces of glazing throughout.
