Description : Wood Moika, Kasai occidental, Zaire, c. 1950 Kuba-Kete people Brown colored patina Mounting Height: 52 cm Very good condition This refined helmet mask 'kamboko' is made of wood and comes from the Kuba-Kete people, who are located in Moika in the province of Kasai occidental in Zaire. This dark brown colored mask has a sublime hair styling, whose pointed parts of the temples reach widely into the forehead. In the triangular middle-part of the hair styling, there can be seen a same shaped décor.The hair styling is a typical stylistic feature for nearly all masks and sculptures of all the tribes, belonging to the group of the Kuba. On the top of the head there is a round opening which is decorated with a coronal of raffia. The eyes are cone-shaped and cut in with red tint.
