Description : 1 vol. only (of 2), large folding engraved map, with duplicate, both offsetting, one with short closed tear, bookplate of Joseph Aslan Cattaui Pasha to front free endpaper, those of Burnham Abbey and of Sir T.N. Abdy to front pastedown, later full morocco preserving contemporary spine, gilt-stamped family crest to both upper and lower board, a little rubbed, 12mo, Paris, Chez Desaint , 1767. The Cattaui was the preeminent Jewish Egyptian mercantile and political dynasty of the 19th- and the early 20th-century. The celebrated library of Joseph Aslan Cattaui Pasha - banker, statesman, and gentleman scholar of ancient Egypt - was sold by auction in Cairo in 1950, his bookplate has been pasted over with another, that of 'S. & M. Cattaui', with the passage of time, the paste has dried and the bookplate been revealed.
