Description : African art. Ghana - Jacks Anthropomorphic female sculpture. Hardwood with light blond patina, beads and pigment. Signs of use. With base. Provenance: Geri Gallery Milan.. A beautiful propitiatory female figure or portrait of a relative, characterised by a well-defined body ( with two flounces at knee and belly height, probably to accommodate strings of beads) a prominent navel, small and pointed breasts and a cylindrical neck adorned with five circles to indicate the wealth of the personage. The head carved with very few carvings, as a masterly synthesis of classical African art, is of great expressiveness made even more intense by the smoothing brought about by time and wear. The earlobes have been pierced in the tradition of all Akan peoples. The combing is in rounded circles running from ear to ear and has been coloured with black pigment. Beautiful glossy patina and evident signs of use Work offered at auction by Galleria Geri, in Via Fiori Oscuri 3, Milan on 25 February 1977, Catalogue no. 6 Lot no. 837. Cm 7,50 x 33,00 x 7,00.
