Condition:Good Additional: This is believed to be a Kifwebe male mask originating from the Songye peoples of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It has a striated face, a triangular nose, a rounded mouth bearing its teeth, almond slit eyes, and black, white, and red pigment. There also appears to be a bird-like creature on the top of the head. Male masks typical have a centered crest on the top of the masks and its size varies on the status of the dancer wearing it, elder dances within the Bwadi bra Kifwebe have larger centered crest compared to others. The dancer who wears the male mask will display aggressive and uncontrolled behavior with the aim of encouraging social conformity. Male Kifwebe masks were mainly used for initiation ceremonies, circumcision, and the enthronement and funerals of the supreme chief.
