Description : Carved wooden helmet mask from the Makonde peoples of Tanzania, Africa. Note the wonderful worn patina and golden honey color. Such masks are known as Lipico and were worn during Initiations of young men into adulthood, with some reports stating that the initiates were to try to wrestle and remove the mask from a designated elder. The heavy duty metal display stand is NOT included with your purchase.but can be purchased separately. Condition: Overall good, showing some age and wear.
