Description : Bid with Confidence - Trust the Artemis Advantage: - 25+ years’ experience selling ancient and ethnographic art - Ancient items have been legally acquired, and are legal to sell - Accurate descriptions, accurate images, no hidden reserves - Artemis has its own Testing Lab on-site to ensure authenticity. Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, dynasties 18 through 20, ca. 1570 to 1070 BCE. An exceedingly rare wooden amulet in the form of an ushabti box. Larger boxes such as these were designed to hold the faience servants employed in the afterlife. Tapered rectangular box with 4 inset panels, one of the side panels with faint remains of hieroglyphs, possibly indicating the individual for which this was created. Small suspension loop at top and sliding panel at the base. We have seen very small bronze sarcophagi that were designed for housing mummified animals (shrews, lizards, etc.) but we have not found a comparable example so can only speculate on what this may have held. Size: 1.125 W x 2 H (2.9 cm x 5.1 cm) Provenance: Collection of Dr. W. Benson Harer, Los Angeles, California, USA collected before 2003 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
