Description : New Kingdom, 1550-1070 BC or later. A bronze cosmetic pot comprising a hollow lower body with wing and feather detailing to the exterior, internal reservoir and socket to accept the round-section pivot pin, similar upper body with feather detailing, with square socket for the separate swan head with S-curved neck. See Andrews, C. Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994 for discussion of the role of the duck in Egyptian art. 217 grams total, 79mm (3 1/4). Property of a London gentleman, acquired before 1970.
