Description : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom Period, 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmosis III, ca. 1479 to 1425 BCE. A lovely beetle-form scarab, hand-carved from steatite, with a gorgeous blue-green glazed coating. The topside displays characteristic insect features such as a petite head, folded wings, and spindly legs tucked underneath its domed body. The underside depicts a standing image of the Warrior King Thutmose III (sometimes Thutmosis, Tuthmosis III, or Thothmes in older texts, meaning Thoth is born) above a horned ungulate. Three distinct hieroglyphs to the figure's left comprise his cartouche, and a large sun disc with twin uraeus rest atop the pharaoh's head. Laterally perforated to use as a pendant.
