Description : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, ca. 1500 BCE. This is a flattened schematic example or a winged scarab, with the central beetle having a pronounced clyepus and wing case. The wings have incised feathers. A series of holes in the edges were used to incorporate the amulet into a bead-work shroud or to attach directly to mummy bandages. The tile, meanwhile, has nice glaze remaining. Size of largest: 3.75 L (9.5 cm) Provenance: Ex Egyptian Exploration Society, Acquired between the late 19th Century and Early 20th Century. Klein Collection and Mrs. French Collection, Rossetti Collection before 1950.
