Description : A distinctive carved East African wood staff set into a long, four-sided iron 'spike', obviously worked by a black-smith. The glossy-patinated handle is a torso, arms at its sides, with a very detailed round head, the eyes inlaid with white metal. The hair is short, but the figure does not have breasts. This wooden part is set into the iron section very tightly. The iron itself has a stable, black patina and has been well-worked. L.o/a 49-5/8 in./1m 26 cm. The iron section alone is L.37-1/4 in./94.5 cm. Cf. Art & Life in Africa-The Stanley Collection, C.D.
