This is the rating and price for Early 20Th C. African Pende Wood Kiwoyo Mask

Description : Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Katundu region, Pende peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden ceremonial mask known as a Kiwoyo (or Giwoyo) Muyombo. The literal translation of this type is Mask with a Long Beard, and the chin panel is pierced along the periphery for the raffia facial hair. The mask has a very striking profile, as well as a forward-facing visage - the eyes are half-closed crescent-shaped lids above a short nose, and scarification marks are carved into lower cheek V-shaped area just above the elongated, dramatic chin that is also embellished with incised triangles. The strong, chiseled facial features are characteristic of this type of mask, and the bulging brow supports a stiff canvas textile that is folded over a thick reed frame and sewn along the edges as an arching headdress. The masks of the Pende people served a variety of ceremonial functions and represented different characters that were portrayed during dances.
