This classical Dogon mask has to be seen closer and analyzed in person for wood qualities such as erosion, handling, insect depredation. water marks, bits of remaining pigment, ifany, remains of tar (creosote) pigmentation, etc, etc. for full evaluation of age. In such a piece it is critical to study it closely with magnifiers, etc. as there are many fakes made of this style and few have survived . Further, the stylistic elements of the figure would have to beb studied closely to ascertain when it was carved. Piece could be a master fake made in thelast 50 years or 100-250 years old. This style mask is commonly faked, masterfully at that. However I don't want to condemn it till it is examined closely.
