This is the rating and price for Congo Carved Wood Ceremonial Spoon
Description : This is a Ceremonial Spoon from the Dominican Republic of the Congo created in the early to mid 20th century. Only used by chiefs, these utilitarian sculptures were signs of power. Smaller statues or miniatures would most often be, created for the average person who did not have special status in the community. This being a decorative utilitarian piece, it is an exception to that rule. Larger statuary pieces were generally created for figures who were presently, or historically of higher status or importance. Provenance: These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany,, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum. This is a beautiful cultural artifact from the, Congo that will make an excellent addition to any cultural art collection. Piece is in good condition for its age, showing signs of use with a very nice patina.
