Description : Very old and well handled female Blolo Bian or Dream Oracle idol from the Baule of the Ivory Coast, West Africa. Carved wooden idol with an undeniable honey brown patina from handling over generations. Such idols were often rubbed and oiled as a sign of reverance to the power of the idol, which acted as an oracle and would come to the owner , often in their sleep, as a dream Lover. Measures 16 1/2 inches tall ( 18 inches tall on custom base) This is a simple and serene example, yet has one of the best surface patina I have seen in my 24 years selling African Art.
