This is the rating and price for Bamana Kore Society Animal Mask

Description : Mid 20th Century Wood Mask, kaolin and black pigment measuring 26 3/4 inches high, The Bamana West African Peoples have multiple masking associations that help regulate society, educate initiates, and appeal to spiritual forces. The Kore association is tasked with teaching moral behavior by depicting the opposite during the performance. For example, the masks used by the association often represent animals which are viewed as lazy or conniving. The mask has a long muzzle and large projecting ears which suggest that the features are inspired by a hyena. A tongue is visible inside the slightly open jaw. The transformative nature of these masks can be seen with the thin human nose.
