D'Anville also describes the geography of Egypt, the Red Sea and the Hejaz, drawing from the works of Pococke, Norden and the Pere Sicard. The map of the Hejaz is of especial interest for its placement of the holy cities and for its inset plan of the port of Jedda. D'Anville was only 22 years old when he was appointed Royal Geographer to King Louis XVI, who later purchased d'Anville's own collection of maps.
