Description : An Egyptian terracotta black-ware bottle in the form of a woman breastfeeding the god Bes, Graeco-Roman, c. 4th Century BC - 3rd Century AD, nicely detailed, her features pleasant, the god reclining in her lap in the manner of an infant. Intact with well preserved slip. H: 2 3/4 (7 cm). Mounted on an antique base with collection number painted i white on back. Ex property from the collection of Joseph Klein (1899-1987), New York City. Mr. Klein sought out and acquired these souvenirs as part of his vast collecting interests. Said to have collected in the manner of an 18th century connoisseur, his overall collection showcased his diverse array of artifacts acquired over a period of 45 years and included the art of ancient China, Egypt, Persia, Greece and Rome.
