Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: NKISI NAIL FETISH/POWER MASK - Kongo peoples, DR Congo. Carved wood mask with inserted nails, protruding knob on head, isinglass eye coverings, strips of fabric attached to a woven basket that extends the back of the head and dabs of clay. The face is divided into a split color palette, red and yellow tones. A Nkisi is regarded as a vessel for a spirit from the dead with power to heal, protect or punish. Condition good, commensurate with age. Late 19th/Early 20th century. Approx 13H x 8.5W x 1.1.75D
