Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: NIKONDI FETISH/POWER FIGURE - Kongo peoples, DR Congo. Carved wood figure with inserted nails and blades, wrapped twine, isinglass eye coverings and a mirrored piece to reflect back misuse/evil intent. A Nicondi is the most powerful of the Nkisi. They are regarded as a vessel for a spirit from the dead with power to hunt down and punish wrongdoers. They are inspired to action with invoked and provoked invocations. Condition good, commensurate with age. Late 19th/Early 20th century. 9H
