Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: NIKONDI FETISH/POWER FIGURE - Kongo peoples, DR Congo. Carved wood double -faced Nicondi figure wearing a hat, with multiple inserted nails, spongy bark covering, isinglass eye inserts and bundles of bamboo. A Nicondi is the most powerful of the Nkisi. They are seen as a vessel for harboring a spirit from the dead, with power to hunt down and punish wrongdoers. They are inspired to action with invoked and provoked invocations. Condition good, commensurate with age, small chip on chin. Late 19th/Early 20th century. 10H
