Description : AFRICAN CARVED WOOD KONGO MASK - Congo Republics and Angola. Known for wood maternity figure sculptures, Nkisi fetishes and textiles, masks are created infrequently by Kongo peoples. Masks were worn during initiation ceremonies and funerals and seem to be embodied with judiciary powers. This painted mask has headdress, neck ruff, bulging forehead, wedge shaped nose, full lips, and facial scarification. Condition good, some finish and wood loss. Attributed to late 19th, early 20th century. 10H x 7W.
