Description : [ BRITISH MEDALS ] A Kano Expedition West African Frontier Force Distinguished Conduct Medal, Edward VII, impressed (Sjt:-Maj. Arri. N Nigeria Regt ), very light surface marks, good very fine and toned, rare (55 awarded) E1500-2000 London Gazette: 31 July 1903: 'Native Ranks. Mounted Infantry. No. 1096, Sergeant Arrie, 1st Northern Nigeria Regiment'. This award is the first of seven D.C.M. recommendations listed on a nominal roll submitted by Colonel T.L.N. Morland and Brigadier-General G.V. Kemball (Commander), which is included in Kemball's detailed dispatch on the Kano-Sokoto Campaign of January-February 1903. The Kano Expeditionary Force awards were the very first West African D.C.M.s to be issued and it may be noted that the recipient's name and rank on the medal differ slightly from the details given in the Gazette.
