The Muller collection contains a number of examples of finely carved wooden Kuba vessels that reflect the diversity of form as well as the variety of intricately carved surface patterns from the extensive Kuba vocabulary. These vessels, made with and without handles, contained palm wine, a beverage made from raffia palm trees Raffia Hookeri, which is enjoyed by both men and women. Palm wine cups are a symbol of prestige and carved wooden ones such as these were particularly popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Muller accession number: 3711.
