Description : Book Details: This lot consists of the antique engravings shown in the corresponding images. Included in this lot are six plates excised from the first and fourth volumes of Description de l'Egypte : ou, Recueil des observations et des recherches qui ont ete faites en Egypte pendant l'expedition de l'armee francaise (published between 1809 and 1828). These engravings depict various ancient cities around Egypt, such as the Island of Philae, Abydos, and Kom Ombo, and their associated ruins, sculptures, and temple structures. Also present are details from sculptures and reliefs within temples and architectural renderings of column types. Plates present include the following: numbers 29, 39, 47, and 60 from the first volume, and numbers 37 and 56 from the fourth volume. This collection of engravings is from the holdings of Archaeologia Books and Prints. Established in 1983, Archaeologia was known for providing scholarly books of quality on the archaeology of Ancient Egypt, the Near East, Greece & Rome, and the Pre-Columbian Americas.
