Description : West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden female Ibeji figure standing with large feet and delineated legs atop an integral rectangular plinth. The woman presents with an incised skirt, dress, and crosshatch belt underneath the colorful textile garment, a bracelet with a pair of cowrie shell beads, and a thick neck adorned with three trade bead necklaces in blue, red, and white hues. The slender head bears semicircular eyes beneath heavy lids, a thin nose with broad nostrils, full lips, and ritual scarification marks on her cheeks and forehead, all beneath a centrally crested cap with a segmented brim.
