This is the rating and price for 20Th C. African Yoruba Iron Healing Staff W/ Osanyin Bird Deity

Description : West Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A fine iron staff topped with a ring of peacock-like birds standing around a larger, central bird. The birds are stylized but wonderfully depicted, as the central avian sits atop the twisted iron shaft. These iron staffs are used in Yoruba society by traditional doctors to protect and heal the sick. The large bird in the center is Osanyin, a Yoruba deity who is associated with medicine and divination, while the birds surrounding Osanyin represent the evil female spirts who are malevolent forces that steal vitality from people in the community. A doctor would put this staff into the ground near a sick person. Size: 6.8 W x 21.8 H (17.3 cm x 55.4 cm), 22.5 H (57.2 cm) on included custom stand.
