Description : **Originally Listed At $600** Eastern/Central Africa, Sudan or Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudanese or Zande/Azande or Mangbetu, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A fine gathering of six forged-steel spear heads in a variety of shapes and sizes, all with tapered socketing shafts. First is a pike-style spear head with a lengthy, rod-form head and an incised midsection. Next are a pair of petaloid spear heads with raised midribs and sharpened edges, one of which is accented with applied black pigment. A spear head with a slender petaloid blade features a series of cut barbs along its midsection. The two most intimidating spear heads have blade heads lined with dozens of barbs on each face as well as a pointed top spike. The pike style and barbed spear heads were traditionally used for fishing. Size of largest (pike style): 18.75 L x 0.55 W (47.6 cm x 1.4 cm) Provenance: private Englewood, Colorado USA collection, ex-M. Condition report : Each piece has slight bending to overall form, with light encrustations and oxidation, and minor nicks to lower edge of socketing shafts, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout. Barbs are still incredibly sharp, so please take care when handling.
