This is the rating and price for 2 Paleolithic Acheulean North African Stone Hand Axes

Description : Northwestern Africa, Algeria, Sahara Desert, Ternifine, Acheulean, Lower Paleolithic, Acheulean period, ca. 1.7 million to 500,000 years ago. A pair of hand-knapped bifacial tools used as hand axes made by the archaic human species Homo erectus (ergaster) from warm sandy brown stone. Both tools have broad flaking patterns to create the convex faces and tapered end- clearly planned designs to facilitate grip and cutting. The surface areas of both have a wonderful patina or desert varnish - a natural smooth surface from when the tool lay exposed to wind and sand. During this time in prehistory the Sahara Desert was a savanna rich in wildlife- prior to the prehistoric global warming that turned the vast region to desert. Homo erectus, the ancestors to modern day humans, required specialized tools such as these for hunting, butchering, digging, and other tasks.
