First came across anamorphic cylindrical drawings at the Museo di Storia Naturale in Florence. I started doing drawings using the reflective surfaces of some discarded air conditioning ducts. While working on the cups, I was also working on an anamorphic film and set of drawings, called What Will Come (Has Already Come). One of the things one notices with the anamorphic drawings is that, though the initial drawing does not move (in this case the saucer) it changes enormously in the mirror (in this case the cup), depending on how close you are to the mirror, and the angle of looking. So even though the drawing is static, it becomes a moving image as one drinks the coffee. The principle of making the drawings is to draw looking at the mirror, not at the drawing surface. – William Kentridge
