Notes : According to the current owner, her grandfather Dr Kirk-Cohen took the young Walter Battiss, then an unknown, struggling artist, under his wing whenever he stayed near Polokwane (then Pietersburg). The artist accompanied the doctor on house calls and gave his host this painting in appreciation of the hospitality he had received. Sibasa is located in the present day Limpopo Province, to the northeast of Polokwane near Pafuri.
