Description : YORUBA EGUNGUN HELMET MASK, NIGERIA Classic example of carved wood with tall rabbit-like ears, geometric designs, and dundun (talking drum) finial, early to mid-20th c. Reputed to have been carved by Oniyide Adugbologe. The symbols of Christianity carved into the ears of this example refer to the religious powers the mask holds for its believers. (Exhibited in ''Friends of African Art,'' Naples, FL, 1988. Provenance: Private collection, South Carolina). Well worn with some minor losses to edge, and pigment decay. 15'' x 10'' x 12''
